About the Festival

Refraction is a festival of music and arts online. The two-week program of performances, video exhibitions, installations and audiovisual performances from contemporary artists across sound, fashion, visual and digital art took place in different locations across the internet, running nightly from July 16th through 30th, 2020.

Refraction premiered each specially commissioned project as a livestream. All performances were then available on-demand in a virtual gallery on the Refraction website. In lieu of tickets and festival passes, Refraction raised money for
Color of Change, The Bail Project, Primary Colours, The Okra Project & Afrotectopia.

Refraction is part of the Generate Artist Program,  which celebrated the launch of the new Generate App and its focus on creators.  We think Generate is a visual tool for all, but is especially relevant to musicians, designers and creative teams as they conceptualize and iterate on their art, often on the go, on their phone, and built the new version with this specifically in mind.

Generate

Generate is an app created by a number of artists, creators, designers and developers. The app’s features are driven by a love for live effects in videos and photos.

As artists ourselves, we understand that often the joy is in the process of playing with flexible tools that stretch and challenge your work. Tools that inspire you to push your own boundaries and create new works that often defy verbal description. We’ve designed Generate’s filters and features to be modular to allow artists to create unique styles to fit different aesthetics.

We also have a studio called The Assembly, which focuses on events, installations, activations and online creative projects. In our mandate we offer the Generate App free for all creators who qualify for the artist program, please reach out to us at info@generateapp.com with any questions around the Generate Creative Program and Refraction.
