Chapter 1: Parallel Biome Hypothesis was a collective exhibition experience curated by the S.E.E.D. artistry group from Brazil and partially funded by Refraction's Creative Grants Program. The experience involved the participation of 80 artists and creators, with a focus on projects and research primarily originating from the Global South, taking place in person in SΓ£o Paulo city (Brazil) at the GalpΓ£o CRU space.
From S.E.E.D. DAO: An attempt and invitation to speculate on the integration of a parallel biome beyond what is known and confirmed, Chapter 1: Parallel Biome Hypothesis originated from the creation of a biotechnological system: the hybridization of 1. tree-technology and 2. machine-technology, combined within a single entity. This interface acted as a meeting point that congregated the desires and inquiries that nourished the exhibition's creative experience, leading the group to question our established notions of technology, how we establish connections with it and with the various worlds of living beings/systems, and how technology intertwines organic and inorganic elements in the construction of our bodies and other living corporealities. Such technodiverse and chimeric "Tree+Machine" system, located at the core of our inquiries and the exhibition space, extended its roots and essence through five environments that defined the exhibition's journey, where the participating artists/creators showcased their works and individual concerns, offering insights on how to sustain this speculative endeavor.
